Volunteer

Volunteers founded the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force in 1985, and volunteers remain an integral part of our mission today.  We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups interested in making a difference in our community.

If you are interested in any of the opportunities below, please email us or call us at 412-345-7456 x593.  Please note all prospective volunteers must complete an in-person interview and orientation.

Help individuals living with HIV/AIDS

PATF Food Pantry

  • Assist clients in using our supplemental food pantry; bag groceries, stock shelves.  Generally, volunteers are needed from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  Time commitment: 6 hours/month.
  • Deliver groceries from the food pantry to clients' homes; pick up donated foods.

Legal Committee

If you are licensed to practice law in the state of Pennsylvania, we need your help!  Join our Pro Bono Legal Committee and help our clients with wills, estate planning, powers of attorney, civil actions and entitlement issues such as Social Security appeals.

While cases vary, generally Legal Committee members provide 4 hours of service a month.  Act 33/34 (child abuse and criminal history) clearances required.

Help educate the community about HIV/AIDS and its prevention

Speakers Bureau & Personal Perspectives

Do you enjoy speaking to groups? Use your skills to make presentations at schools, churches and community groups, or staff information tables at health fairs, community festivals or concerts.  PATF will provide you with the training and tools you need to educate others about HIV/AIDS.

If you are HIV+, you can help others learn to protect themselves by sharing your experience in our Personal Perspectives presentations.

Act 33/34 (child abuse and criminal history) clearances required.
Weekday, evening, and weekend opportunities are available.  Generally we ask for a time commitment of 8 hours a month for 1 year.

Information Table Staffing

Distribute information about HIV/AIDS and PATF at events.
Training: AIDS education or HIV prevention recommended.
Time commitment: varies based on number of events.

Help us in the Office

Sunday and Evening Receptionist

We provide evening HIV every Wednesday and Thursday from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m.  and on Sundays from Noon to 4:00 p.m.  We need your help to keep these hours, and greet those who come in for testing.  If you can devote 2-4 hours a week, please contact us at 412-345-7456 x 593.

Direct Mail assistance

If you are too busy to volunteer on a regular basis, you can still help PATF.  Share lots of laughs and help us assemble mailings (labeling, stuffing envelopes, stamping).

These are generally weekday or evening opportunities that occur at different times throughout the year.  If you would like to receive notice of these opportunities, please click here.
